To the left, we have a 600 first release series. Notice the bobbin winder button below the stitch length lever. To the right, we have a 600E series. Notice there is no button below the stitch length lever, and the panel is a darker color with stripes

Second Release Type Used in the 600E Notice it activates by pushing straight down on the button
Rocker Type Winder Used in most 620 series, but do think that some 600's may have had it just as they phased out. But I could be wrong
Push to the side Winder Type These appeared in the 630 series, and continue to be used in all other releases of the Touch & Sew Series

Differences is the bobbin winder systems The bobbin winder in the 1st release 600's were difficult to adjust over the later types used. However, with that said, the push down type (shown below far left) wasn't that much easier.

You will notice that most of the gears have an "Options" next to it This is part of Phase II of the warranty program - Customer Assurance See the Return Policy Page for details, but in short the Options provide you with different warranty options Yes...even for you DIY repair folks...botch the installation, damage a gear, if purchased with one of the options, it is replaced @ no charge - including shipping - Applies only to purchases with an option - Gear only, no replacement Options Include: 45 Day Warranty & 90 Day Warranty You Install It - It Works Wonderful...but perhaps after 30 days, it fails, for whatever reason - you get a replacement

About the 600 Series Service Manuals These manuals are as received from the factory. The manuals will cover features specific to a particular model, and ask that one reference a different manual for other adjustments. Example: The 620 manual states: Instructions appearing in the Service Manual for Machines of Class 600 generally apply to Machines of Classes 620, 625, and 626. Instructions for Class 603 Machines generally apply to those of Class 628. This supplement provides instructions which apply only to Class 620, 625, 626 and 628 Machines. I am offering each individually for your convenience, just be aware that it may not cover all the information you may require. I am also offering as a complete set, that way you should be provided with all the information required, and be able to handle any repair required. Also note that factory manuals DO NOT cover replacing broken gears, back then, that was left for the Repair Centers, and not the field repairman. These are Adjustor's Manuals, not major replacement manuals. They apply to US made models and do not cover those made in Germany, nor Japan.

Added July 7, 2012 More about the hook driver difference between the early 600 & 600E series, and later 620, 630 & 640 series. Thanks to Jan Sabin - I received a box of parts & in the hook drivers...low and behold was an early model 600 Hook Driver...Now you can see the actual difference. The hook driver on the left in the photo would be used in the above far left photo type winder. It had an extra little flat nut, locator washer & jam nut. Notice the thread length difference. Thank You Jan of Mr. Sew Dandy
